Samuel Joll married Sarah Bowhay on 5 December 1796 at Calstock, Cornwall.
Samuel was a yeoman, owning Tumple farm, near Calstock, besides this he owned certain
customary lands and houses, comprising quite a part of the village of Calstock.
Samuel died in August 1807, leaving Sarah
with three young children, and pregnant with a fourth.
She was able to raise and educate her 4 children, Josiah (Born1801),Ann
(Born 1803) ,Samuel (Born 1805 & Richard (Born 1807),no doubt from the proceeds of the family properties.
Oldest
son, Josiah was to take over the
running of the farms. Sarah died at Calstock in 1849.
Samuel Joll (1805-1879) and his wife Elizabeth (née Treliving, d. 1882) made the three-month voyage to New Zealand, with
five children, between November 1841 and February 1842. They eventually settled in New Plymouth and had five more children.
Josiah married Mary Ann Cory on 31 May 1834 at Calstock & Died January 1872.
Mary Ann died in 1876. They had eight children.
Their
daughter Thamazine married Joseph Henry Harris in 1857 in Cornwall.
Joseph migrated to New Zealand in 1859 & Thamazine
with two year old son John, followed a year later.
